What/ Who is a Mentor at Harrow School Online?
On application to Harrow School Online, parents are asked to name a Mentor. The Mentor will take responsibility for the pupil’s attendance at the school and be the main point of contact for Harrow School Online staff.
A Mentor may be a parent or guardian, or a responsible adult nominated by the pupil’s parent or guardian, such as a family member, member of the household, tutor or educational agent.
Mentors are expected to take an active role in supporting the education of their assigned pupil. A pupil’s Mentor has access to the school’s learning management platform and can observe and monitor the pupil’s performance, grades and time spent studying.
There is not an expectation for the Mentor to provide any subject specialist knowledge, or to “homeschool” the pupil, or to be continuously present while the pupil is studying.
The school recognises that being a Mentor might be a challenging role at times – and it will certainly frequently be rewarding. Staff at the school are always available to support the Mentor with advice or guidance.
The Mentor must:
-
be a responsible adult, over the age of 18 years-old;
-
be prepared to take an active, supporting role in the pupil’s education;
-
be in possession of a high level of English language proficiency;
-
be in regular contact with the pupil; and
-
have access to the internet and some basic internet skills, including the ability to communicate via email.
Key duties of the Mentor:
-
Take responsibility for the pupil’s attendance at the school.
